Meet Kajah Kazwa: India’s first MPV, launched decades ahead of the Innova and Ertiga. The Rajah Group, a Kerala-based beedi manufacturer and Ayurvedic healthcare provider, ventured into the automobile sector in 1998 with this innovative vehicle. Despite building 4-5 prototypes, the Kazwa never reached production due to regulatory challenges.
Sourced from existing vehicle parts, the Kazwa featured a fiberglass and sheet metal exterior. Rajah Group continues to supply fiberglass panels to companies like Tata Marco Polo and Ashok Leyland.
With a futuristic design, the Kazwa came in a unique violet color and offered features like air conditioning, power steering, power windows, and central locking. It was powered by two engine options: a 2.0-liter turbocharged and a 2.0-liter non-turbo diesel engine. The vehicle also made an appearance in the 1998 Malayalam film Harikrishnans.
