Tata Safari EX | Movie 'Road'

For an 80's kid, the first-generation Tata Safari was more than just an SUV—it was a style icon, a status symbol, and a dream car that redefined Indian automotive aspirations. Its rugged yet elegant design, with those clean lines and imposing stance, made it a head-turner.

Watching the Safari in the 2002 movie Road, with its raw, rebellious charm, left a lasting impression. For many like me, it wasn’t just a car—it was the car, a gateway to adventure and freedom. That’s probably why I still rewatch the movie occasionally, just to relive that thrill.

The Safari Dicor refresh, however, was a letdown. While it retained some of the original DNA, the design tweaks felt uninspired, as though the brand had lost its bold, pioneering spirit. It lacked the magic that made the first-gen Safari iconic. By the time the Storme arrived, the dream had all but faded. The Storme might have been an upgrade in performance and features, but it marked the beginning of the end for the true Safari legacy.

Today’s Tata Safari, while sleek and modern, feels like just another smart-looking SUV in Tata's lineup—not the Safari we grew up idolizing. It’s hard to connect emotionally with it because it no longer carries the soul of the original. The essence of ruggedness, individuality, and adventure has been replaced with a more urban, polished vibe. For me, the real Safari will always remain the one that made my childhood dreams come alive.
