On May 5, 2011, Autocar India shared an image titled "SCOOP! Sub-4 Metre Ambassador: 60-Year-Old Ambassador to Get a Fresh Lease on Life." This news surprised and excited me; having seen the Ambassador since childhood, this spy pic suggested that the car would continue to be produced for a while longer. Unfortunately, production of the Ambassador ended in May 2014.
Later, I came across images of the never-launched Sub-4 Metre Ambassador, known as the Elegon. I believe these images were captured during a dealer meet. The shortened Ambassador was tested with a 1.5-liter diesel engine that produced 35.5 bhp and 13.7 kgm of torque.
The Elegon has a unique design, resembling a local adaptation. Its exterior features a compact boot to keep it under the 4-meter length requirement, and the dashboard is quite similar to that of the Avigo.
Feel free to reach out if you have any additional information about the shortened Ambassador, a.k.a. the Elegon!
