Standard Companion | Movie 'Naadodikkattu'

The Standard Companion originated from the British carmaker Standard Motor Company. While the brand disappeared in the UK by the 1960s, it thrived in India through Standard Motor Products of India Ltd. (STAMPRO), established as Union Motors in Chennai in 1949 to produce Standard vehicles locally

The Companion, a station wagon version of the Pennant/Ten series, was an exceptionally rare model in India, sold for just one year in 1962. Despite the practicality of station wagons, they were never widely popular in India. The Companion, powered by a 948cc, 4-cylinder engine producing 37 HP, competed with the Fiat 1100 and Hindustan Ambassador and was favored by some taxi drivers, especially in Chennai.

Interestingly, some Indian Companions featured an imported Triumph badge like those seen in export markets, but local versions replaced "Triumph" with "Standard," blending global styling with a local touch.

The Standard Companion featured here is from the 1987 Malayalam movie 'Naadodikkattu'.
