Toyota Qualis marked the entry of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited—a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation and the Kirloskar Group—into the Indian market in 2000. The Qualis was essentially a rebadged version of the globally successful Toyota Kijang. It was based on the third-generation Kijang platform but featured updated front and rear styling, along with drivetrain components borrowed from the fourth generation.
Positioned as a competitor to the established Tata Sumo and Mahindra Bolero, the Qualis made its Indian debut in January 2000. Its pricing ranged from approximately ₹5.7 lakh for the base variant to ₹8 lakh for the top-end variant. The available trims included the FS (Family Saloon), GS (Grand Saloon), and GS-T (Grand Saloon Touring).
The model shown in the images is the GS-T. It came equipped with a host of premium features such as power steering, power windows, dual air conditioning, central locking, rear defogger, rear spoiler, and distinctive checkered-flag decals. Additionally, it sported a stylish bull bar, enhancing its rugged appeal.
The Toyota Qualis featured here is from the 2001 Malayalam movie 'Raavanaprabhu'.
