Maruti SS80, also known as the Maruti 800, holds a significant place in the history of Indian automobiles. The SS80 arrived in India in 1983 as CKD units. Approximately 20,000 units of the Maruti SS80 were produced.
This iconic car was powered by the F8B engine, a 796 cc unit featuring a Mikuni carburetor that delivered 39 bhp to the front wheels through a four-speed, floor-mounted gearbox. The standard variant of the car weighed just 610 kg.
Over time, most SS80s have undergone customization or modifications, making it rare to find one in its original condition.
One such customized SS80 can be seen in images from the 1992 Bollywood movie Bol Radha Bol. This version features an unconventional panoramic-style roof without glass, leaving no visible way to close it.
Additionally, the car is adorned with three stripes in a red, blue, and black combination, enhancing its sporty appeal. Another distinctive feature is the inclusion of yellow, square-shaped fog lamps, further adding to its unique look.
