Back in 2010-11, I was looking for a job in the automobile industry. With my diploma in automobile engineering and a love for vehicle design, I started visiting different factories with my resume in hand. Maybe I just wanted to see how these factories worked too!
One day, I went to Kumar Motors in Pirangut, Pune. They had their manufacturing plant there, and I was excited to visit. But I couldn’t get inside since the person handling interviews wasn’t available. Still, I saw several stylish three-wheelers parked near the gate, which caught my attention.
I never got a call from them, but I went back a few times just to look at those Kumar autos. Seeing one on the road was quite rare back then. Their vehicles used Lombardini engines, which made them much quieter than normal diesel rickshaws.
Kumar Motors made two main models — Agni (a pickup version) and Parinda (a passenger version). The early models even had a steering wheel instead of a handlebar, which was pretty unique. Later, they switched to the handlebar design.
I’m not sure if Kumar Motors is still in the same business today, but I’d love to visit the place again someday to see what’s there now.
